Current starting salary is $53,901 and is part of a five-step scale that tops out at $69,429. There is an additional 5% pay increase that shall take effect on October 1, 2024.

  • New or rehired employees will qualify for $1,000 signing bonus after the successful completion of field training.
  • Additional compensation considerations available based on prior experience in law enforcement, public safety/paramedic, and/or military service. This consideration could include:
  • Starting pay above the entry step based on relevant experience;
  • Starting with up to eighty (80) hours of vacation leave based on relevant experience;
  • Additional 6% pay increase for employees designated with Detective or Deputy Paramedic specialties.

PROGRESSIVE PAY SCALE & BENEFITS

The applicant’s qualifications and law enforcement experience will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine an appropriate starting wages and benefits.

Minimum standards

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must possess high character fitness, including but not limited to: No prior felony convictions, or criminal/civil history that would prevent licensing by MCOLES.
  • Must meet minimum licensing standard(s) for MI law enforcement standards, as set forth by MCOLES. (Current law enforcement officer, or graduate of MCOLES approved police academy).
  • Comply with hearing and vision standards required by MCOLES for licensing as a law enforcement officer.

** In order to obtain a sponsorship to an MCOLES recognized police academy, candidates must meet the above listed requirements, as well as the minimum MCOLES licensing standard(s) for MI law enforcement officers, as directed by the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office.  For more information, visit MCOLES here.

The first step in our hiring process is to apply online at www.beasheriff.com and then participate in the physical and written testing. The written test will cover four key areas: reading comprehension, counting accuracy, inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning.
